Oceania Group is seeking a dedicated Healthcare Assistant for Elderslea Lodge in Upper Hutt. You’ll support residents to live with dignity, comfort, and independence, delivering care that is respectful, safe, and person-centred. Weekend hours are required to meet resident needs.

You will provide personal care, assist with daily activities, observe residents’ needs, and work closely with Registered Nurses to ensure high-quality care in a warm, welcoming environment.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience in caregiving, aged care, or a similar role.
  • A compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to caring for older adults.
  • Clear communication skills and a strong team-focused mindset.
  • Flexibility to work a rotating roster, that may include weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care maintaining dignity, privacy, and comfort.
  • Support residents with daily activities such as hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and hydration.
  • Observe and respond to residents’ needs, escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Build warm, respectful relationships with residents and families/whānau.
  • Create a safe, clean, welcoming environment promoting wellbeing and independence.
  • Follow care plans and work with Registered Nurses to ensure high-quality care.
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with residents, families, and team.
  • Maintain health, safety, and infection control practices to keep everyone safe.

What you’ll be doing:

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will support residents to live with comfort, dignity, and independence, delivering care that is respectful, safe, and genuinely person-centred. You’ll focus on building trusting relationships and creating a calm, supportive environment where residents feel listened to, valued, and cared for. You will:

  • Provide personal care in a way that maintains dignity, privacy, and comfort
  • Support residents with daily activities such as hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and hydration
  • Observe and respond to residents’ physical and emotional needs, escalating concerns appropriately
  • Build warm, respectful relationships with residents and their families/whānau
  • Create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment that promotes wellbeing and independence
  • Follow individual care plans and work closely with Registered Nurses to ensure consistent, high-quality care
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with residents, families, and your wider team
  • Take responsibility for health, safety, and infection control practices to keep everyone safe
