Job summary

Gallagher in Hamilton, New Zealand is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to design, build and maintain the production fixtures and equipment that keep our manufacturing environment running efficiently. You will collaborate with R&D, manufacturing and NPI teams to move ideas from concept to the factory floor, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement across the site. A practical, proactive mindset, strong CAD skills and a commitment to safety and quality are essential.

Qualifications

• Certificate, Diploma or Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering (NZCE, NZDE, BE or equivalent)
• 3+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering or manufacturing
• Strong 3D CAD skills and troubleshooting ability
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Hands-on approach to engineering and problem solving
• Workshop/manufacturing experience desirable
• Ability to collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, NPI and engineering teams
• Proactive mindset to identify and implement improvements

Responsibilities

• Design and build production fixtures, tooling and equipment
• Support mechanical manufacturing processes
• Drive continuous improvement across the factory
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and minimise production disruption
• Mentor the NPI team through new product introduction
• Coordinate with external suppliers to source parts, services and solutions
• Maintain health, safety, quality and 6S standards
• Keep engineering/process documentation accurate and well organised
• Contribute ideas and solutions to ongoing engineering improvements
