Job summary
Gallagher in Hamilton, New Zealand is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to design, build and maintain the production fixtures and equipment that keep our manufacturing environment running efficiently. You will collaborate with R&D, manufacturing and NPI teams to move ideas from concept to the factory floor, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement across the site. A practical, proactive mindset, strong CAD skills and a commitment to safety and quality are essential.
Qualifications
Certificate, Diploma or Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering (NZCE, NZDE, BE or equivalent)
3+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering or manufacturing
Strong 3D CAD skills and troubleshooting ability
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Hands-on approach to engineering and problem solving
Workshop/manufacturing experience desirable
Ability to collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, NPI and engineering teams
Proactive mindset to identify and implement improvements
Responsibilities
Design and build production fixtures, tooling and equipment
Support mechanical manufacturing processes
Drive continuous improvement across the factory
Troubleshoot mechanical issues and minimise production disruption
Mentor the NPI team through new product introduction
Coordinate with external suppliers to source parts, services and solutions
Maintain health, safety, quality and 6S standards
Keep engineering/process documentation accurate and well organised
Contribute ideas and solutions to ongoing engineering improvements
