Job summary

Foodstuffs North Island is seeking an experienced Grocery Manager to lead the day-to-day Grocery Department in the Northland region. This hands-on leadership role focuses on high standards, stock management, and delivering an outstanding shopping experience.

You will drive sales, manage inventory and back-stock, and coach the team to achieve operational and customer service excellence while supporting recruitment, onboarding and performance management.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience leading teams in a retail or supermarket environment (grocery experience preferred).
• Highly organized with strong planning and time management skills.
• Proven experience in stock management, merchandising, and retail presentation standards.
• Confident using SAP for ordering, stock management, reporting, inventory control, and identifying sales opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day operations of the Grocery Department, ensuring high presentation and merchandising standards.
• Drive sales, availability, and department performance through strong stock management and execution.
• Manage inventory, stock flow, and replenishment to minimise gaps, reduce waste, and maximise sales opportunities.
• Ensure accurate stock rotation (FIFO) and back-stock management processes are followed.
• Maintain store presentation standards, ensuring aisles are clean, full, ticketed, and customer-ready.
• Lead, coach, and develop the team to achieve operational and customer service excellence.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management within the department.
• Work with leadership to achieve sales, wage, GP, and productivity targets.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities within the department.
• Ensure Health & Safety and Food Safety standards are consistently met.

As Grocery Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Grocery Department, ensuring shelves are full, standards are high, stock is managed effectively, and customers enjoy an outstanding shopping experience.

The primary purpose of this role is to:

• Lead, coach, and develop the team to achieve operational and customer service excellence

• Work alongside leadership to achieve sales, wage, GP, and productivity targets
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities within the department
• Ensure Health & Safety and Food Safety standards are consistently met and maintained

Our ideal applicant will:

• Have a minimum of 2 years' experience leading teams in a retail or supermarket environment (grocery experience preferred).
• Be highly organised with strong planning and time management skills.
• Have proven experience in stock management, merchandising, and retail presentation standards.
• Be process-driven and highly detail-oriented.
• Be confident using SAP for ordering, stock management, reporting, inventory control, and identifying sales and stock opportunities.
