Job summary

Bargain Chemist in Dunedin, Otago is offering a Graduate Pharmacist internship to launch your career in a busy community pharmacy. You will work under a preceptor, gain hands-on dispensing experience, and develop patient‑centred care skills in a supportive environment.

As an intern, you will align with the NZ registration pathway, receive comprehensive training, and participate in dispensing tasks while delivering safe, compassionate care to our community seven days a week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Pharmacy completed or near completion and eligible for NZ registration.
• Strong communication and patient-care focus with empathy and professionalism.
• Able to deliver accurate dispensing and medication information to patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Support dispensary operations and ensure medication safety and accuracy.
• Work with pharmacists to supply medicines and check prescriptions.
• Handle stock control, unpacking orders and blister packing as needed.
• Provide patient education and information to patients and whānau.
• Assist with compliance to pharmacy standards and safe patient care.

As a graduate pharmacist with Bargain Chemist, you'll be supported every step of the way with a comprehensive intern training programme, ongoing guidance from your preceptor and the PSNZ ITP, and tailored support to help you transition from university into professional practice.

Our pharmacies operate 7 days a week, generally from 8am - 8pm including public holidays, so flexibility is important. Intern hours will align with your preceptor's roster. We're looking for graduate pharmacist who are passionate about pharmacy, customer care, and making a positive impact. You'll thrive if you're accurate, personable, solution‑focused, calm under pressure, and bring strong communication skills to every interaction.

What You'll Bring to Life in this Role

• Supporting dispensary operations and compliance with pharmacy standards.
• Working closely with pharmacists to ensure safe and accurate medication supply.
• Stock control, unpacking orders and assisting with blister packing as needed.
• Practice pharmacy with a patient centered care focus
• Dispense and checking medicines
• Participating in dispensary service provisions
• Provision of primary healthcare
• Provision of pharmacist only sales
• Providing medicine information to other healthcare professionals (HCP)
• Provide medication education to patients and their whānau
• Ensure patients receive safe and effective treatment in a timely manner
