Job summary
Ministry for Primary Industries NZ – Rotorua, North Island is seeking a focused Spatial Intelligence GIS analyst to provide spatial data analysis to inform on organisational delivery decisions.
You will undertake imagery analysis, assist in developing spatial workflows, and provide sound advice to programmes including the Emissions Trading Scheme for forestry, land use, forestry investments, biosecurity readiness and response, and fisheries.
Qualifications
- This role suits a graduate or intermediate GIS analyst with a couple of years’ experience using ESRI software including ArcGIS Pro.
- Experience with Python, R, SQL, and/or FME is desirable.
Responsibilities
- Apply GIS and spatial analysis to support forestry and wider primary industries.
- Understand and apply relevant legislation, policy, and regulations.
- Assess ETS applications and estimate timeframes.
- Contribute to the development of innovative technical solutions (including scripting, automation, and web tools) to improve data use and analysis methods.
- Apply independent initiative, critical thinking, and problem solving to produce high-quality maps, reports, and analysis.
- Maintain and use GIS datasets to support spatial intelligence.
- Continuously improve processes and tools.
- Peer review spatial products and methods.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
