Job summary

Canstaff is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to analyze soil, rock, and groundwater conditions for construction and environmental projects in Hamilton, NZ. You will assess risks, propose foundations and earthworks solutions, and collaborate with engineers and contractors to ensure safe, compliant project delivery.

Ideal candidates have field experience, strong communication skills, and a passion for solving complex geotechnical challenges across diverse infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and geotechnical design principles.
  • Experience with fieldwork, site investigations, and laboratory testing.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for reporting and client interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct geotechnical investigations, including soil and rock sampling, testing, and analysis.
  • Assess ground conditions and provide recommendations for foundations, earthworks, and slope stability.
  • Design and evaluate retaining walls, embankments, and other geotechnical structures.
  • Use geotechnical software to analyze data and develop engineering solutions.
  • Prepare detailed reports and technical documentation for clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Monitor construction projects to ensure compliance with geotechnical recommendations.
  • Collaborate with civil engineers, architects, and contractors on project planning and execution.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental and safety regulations in all geotechnical work.
