Job summary

The Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Hospital is seeking a General Surgeon for a fixed‑term sabbatical‑cover role, commencing June 2026 for about three months. The position is full‑time (80 hours per fortnight) with on‑call duties and acute patient management.

Applicants must be registered or eligible with the New Zealand Medical Council as a Specialist General Surgeon and hold FRACS or an equivalent higher qualification.

Qualifications

• Registered or eligible for NZ Medical Council Specialist General Surgeon registration.
• Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent.
• Approved higher qualification enabling Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of NZ.

Responsibilities

• Manage a wide range of general surgical conditions.
• Fully participate in the on-call roster (1:10) and acute patient management.
• Endoscopy skills advantageous for GI procedures.
