Job summary

Himalayas Restaurant in Rangiora, Canterbury, New Zealand is seeking an experienced and passionate Cook to join our kitchen team. This full-time, permanent position offers a minimum of 30 guaranteed hours per week and involves preparing authentic Indian dishes to a consistently high standard in a fast-paced restaurant environment.

Qualifications

• NZQF Level 4+ cookery qualification or 2+ years' cook experience.
• Knowledge of Indian techniques, spices and cooking methods.
• Ability to work under pressure during busy service periods.
• Strong attention to food quality, presentation and hygiene standards.
• Good communication and teamwork; rosters including evenings/weekends when required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and present Indian dishes per recipes and quality standards.
• Plan and organise food production to ensure timely service.
• Monitor portions, food costs and wastage.
• Check stock levels and assist with ordering ingredients and supplies.
• Ensure food is prepared, stored and handled according to NZ food safety standards.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen at all times.
• Collaborate with kitchen and front-of-house staff during service.
• Assist with training and guiding junior kitchen staff as required.
