Job summary

Auckland Council’s Transport Infrastructure department is seeking a Strategic Asset Manager to provide visionary leadership and technical expertise across the asset and fleet portfolio. You will manage in-house teams and oversee outsourced asset performance contracts, guiding investment decisions and funding opportunities.

Applicants should have extensive asset management experience in large, complex organisations, plus an engineering discipline.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience leading teams through change and building capability, quality and accountability across specialist functions.
• Strong experience in asset management of public or complex infrastructure.
• Expertise in at least one engineering discipline; knowledge of others is a plus.
• Track record of developing innovative solutions and sustainable asset management practices.
• Experience with commercial projects in both private and public sectors.
• Strong commercial acumen; ability to analyse financial and economic benefits of investments.
• Familiarity with local government processes and legislation desirable.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop specialist asset management teams across a diverse transport infrastructure portfolio.
• Lead the refresh and embedding of the Council's transport asset management framework.
• Build trusted relationships with NZTA, Council stakeholders, infrastructure partners and contractors.
• Provide strategic oversight of asset performance contracts and drive quality and performance.
• Lead strategic asset planning to support investment decisions and maximise funding opportunities.
• Build capability and embed consistent, high-quality asset management practices across the portfolio.
