Job summary

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency on the West Coast is seeking a Senior Asset Manager to lead planning, optimisation, and oversight of maintenance and renewal programmes for the state highway network. You’ll manage a multimillion-dollar asset portfolio, ensuring corridors perform, endure, and deliver value for generations.

You will develop 3-year forward works programmes, oversee asset condition, lead renewal designs, and manage budgets and funding allocations.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated asset management experience for transport or infrastructure.
• Proven ability to develop forward works and long-term asset plans.
• Strong understanding of pavement engineering, treatments, and maintenance.
• Budget management and forecasting expertise.
• Experience in asset condition assessment and programme development.
• Analytical skills to translate data into practical strategies.
• Excellent stakeholder and contract management experience.
• Formal civil engineering or asset management qualification.
• Current full NZ driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimise 3-year forward works programmes and annual plans.
• Oversee asset condition through inspections, audits and validation.
• Lead investigations, test plans, and renewal designs for cost-effective treatments.
• Manage budgets, forecasting, and funding allocations (approx. $62M).
• Identify opportunities for efficiencies and improved maintenance through data insights.
• Support strategic planning and emergency response planning.
