Job summary

Tradestaff Otago is seeking experienced fitter-welders to join our growing team, with work across Otago and potential sites in Canterbury and Southland. You will fabricate, fit, and weld structural steel and machinery on diverse projects.

We offer stable hours (min 30 hours per week), competitive pay of $30–$40 per hour, and opportunities for long-term employment in a supportive team environment. Candidates should have 3+ years of experience, NZQF Level 4, and own tools; pre-employment drug test

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' relevant experience in fitter-welder roles.
• NZQF Level 4 qualification or overseas equivalent recognised by NZQA.
• Strong MIG and stick welding skills; TIG a bonus.
• Ability to read and work from engineering drawings.
• Reliable, hard-working, safety-conscious; own tools.
• Reliable transport and two recent work references.
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

Fitter-Welder – Specialists Wanted

Otago Based Opportunities | $30-$40 per hour

Otago will be the dominant area of work for this role - however you may also be required to work in Canterbury and Southland regions. This will be discussed further with the successful applicant.

We’re looking for experienced Fitter-Welders with strong fabrication skills to join our growing team in Otago. With multiple roles available, this is a fantastic chance to secure stable work with excellent pay, great conditions, and ongoing project variety.

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll be working on a range of fabrication and installation engineering projects across a range of industrial environments. Every day brings something new – from fabricating custom components to assembling, fitting and welding structural steel and machinery.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assemble, align, and install metal components and structures
• Reading and interpreting detailed fabrication drawings
• MIG and stick welding (TIG experience a bonus)
• Using cutting, grinding, and forming tools
• Fitting, Welding, and fabricating a range of engineering tasks
• Site installation work as required
• Maintaining high standards of health and safety

What we’re looking for:

• A minimum of 3 years' relevant experience, or
• A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification (or an overseas qualification recognised by NZQA as comparable)
