Job summary

Tradestaff is recruiting a skilled Fitter-Welder to join our Canterbury team. You will work on fabrication and installation projects across industrial settings, fabricating components, welding and assembling structures, and reading engineering drawings.

Some roles may involve shift work; long‑term opportunities and steady hours are available. The role requires at least 3 years of experience (or NZQF Level 4), strong MIG and stick welding skills, and the ability to read drawings.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' relevant experience or NZQF Level 4 qualification (or comparable).
• Strong MIG and stick welding skills; TIG is a bonus.
• Ability to read and interpret detailed fabrication drawings.
• Must be reliable, hardworking and safety-conscious.
• Own tools and reliable transport required.
• Two recent work references; pass pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

Fitter-Welder – Specialists Wanted

Canterbury Based Opportunities | $30-$40 per hour

Canterbury will be the predominate area of work for this role - however you may also be required to work in Otago and Southland regions. This will be discussed further with the successful applicant.

We’re looking for experienced Fitter-Welders with strong fabrication skills to join our growing team in the Canterbury. With multiple roles available, this is a fantastic chance to secure stable work with excellent pay, great conditions, and ongoing project variety.

Some roles may include shift work – full details will be discussed with shortlisted candidates.

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll be working on a range of fabrication and installation engineering projects across a range of industrial environments. Every day brings something new – from fabricating custom components to assembling, fitting and welding structural steel and machinery.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assemble, align, and install metal components and structures
• Reading and interpreting detailed fabrication drawings
• MIG and stick welding (TIG experience a bonus)
• Using cutting, grinding, and forming tools
• Fitting, Welding, and fabricating a range of engineering tasks
• Site installation work as required
• Maintaining high standards of health and safety

What we’re looking for:

• A minimum of 3 years' relevant experience, or
• A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification (or an overseas qualification recognised by NZQA as comparable)
• Strong MIG and stick welding skills (TIG is a plus)
• Ability to read and work from engineering drawings
• Reliable, hard-working, and safety-conscious
