Job summary

PAE Inc Group seeks an experienced Fitter Turner Fabricator to join our Defence team based at Ohakea. You will deliver high-quality mechanical fitting, fabrication, welding, maintenance, and repair across plant and equipment in a unique Defence environment.

The role requires a trade qualification, strong MIG and TIG welding, ability to read engineering drawings, five+ years of experience, a current Class 1 licence, and the ability to obtain security clearances.

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification as Mechanical Fitter, Fitter Turner, Fabricator, or similar mechanical trade.
  • Experience in mechanical fitting, fabrication, and maintenance.
  • Five or more years of relevant mechanical maintenance and fabrication experience.
  • Strong MIG welding capability.
  • TIG welding experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Current Class 1 Driver Licence.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical fitting, machining, installation, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Complete planned and reactive maintenance work in line with operational requirements.
  • Diagnose faults and identify practical repair solutions.
  • Manufacture, repair, modify, and install mechanical components and equipment.
  • Undertake light and heavy fabrication work to a high standard.
  • Perform MIG welding as a core requirement of the role.
  • Undertake TIG welding work where qualified and required.

We are seeking an experienced Fitter Turner Fabricator to join our Defence team based in Ohakea.

You'll play a key role in supporting the safe and reliable operation of plant, equipment, and infrastructure within a unique Defence setting.

About the Role

As a Fitter Turner Fabricator, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical fitting, fabrication, welding, maintenance, and repair services across a broad range of plant and equipment.

Working as part of a dedicated maintenance team, you'll carry out both planned and reactive maintenance activities, diagnose faults, fabricate and install components, and provide practical solutions that support operational requirements. You'll have the opportunity to apply your trade skills across a diverse range of mechanical and fabrication projects while contributing to continuous improvement and exceptional service delivery.

About You

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • A trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter, Fitter Turner, Fabricator, or similar mechanical trade, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical fitting, fabrication, and maintenance.
  • Proven experience in light and heavy fabrication.
  • Strong MIG welding capability.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • A current Class 1 Driver Licence.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain required security and background clearances.
  • Five or more years of relevant mechanical maintenance and fabrication experience.
  • TIG welding experience.
  • Experience working in facilities management, industrial, Defence, manufacturing, or similar environments.
