Job summary

The Backyard Bar and Eatery in Whatawhata, North Island, is seeking a Duty Manager to oversee daily operations, lead bar and floor staff, and ensure outstanding guest experiences. You will independently manage the venue when rostered and drive sales while maintaining service excellence.

Ideal candidate has LCQ and GM certificate, 2+ years in hospitality, and strong leadership with excellent communication. Availability across days, nights, weekends, and holidays is required.

Qualifications

• LCQ and General Manager's Certificate required.
• 2+ years in hospitality, with bar and floor operations experience.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Able to independently manage the venue when needed.
• Professional presentation and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently manage daily operations while on shift.
• Lead and support front-of-house staff.
• Coordinate with senior management and other supervisors.
• Take bookings and confirm functions.
• Resolve customer complaints professionally.
• Maximise sales and upselling opportunities while maintaining service standards.
• Coach and develop team members through everyday leadership.
• Ensure compliance with Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, Gaming Laws, and Health & Safety regulations.
• Attend senior management meetings and contribute to improvements.

As a Duty Manager, you will play a key role in the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of our busy gastropub. This is an excellent opportunity for a hospitality professional who enjoys a mix of bar service & drink creation, floor management & customer service, team leadership & staff development, and compliance & operational responsibility. You will be expected to independently manage the bar when rostered, lead shifts with confidence, and ensure every guest has an outstanding experience.

Key responsibilities

• Efficiently manage daily operations while on shift
• Lead and support front-of-house staff

About you

• Valid LCQ and General Manager's Certificate
• Minimum 2 years' hospitality industry experience
• Strong experience in both bar and floor operations
• Ability to confidently manage the venue independently when required
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Good computer and administrative skills
• Professional personal presentation
• Mature, responsible, and naturally outgoing personality
• Passion for hospitality and delivering memorable guest experiences
