Job summary

Omexom in Mt Wellington, Auckland, is seeking an Estimator with extensive electrical sector experience to lead tendering and estimating across commercial, industrial, infrastructure and maintenance projects. About the Role

We are seeking an Estimator who has extensive experience in the electrical sector, to join our team and play a key role in securing and delivering successful projects across commercial, industrial, infrastructure and maintenance sectors.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing the full tendering and estimating process, from bid assessment through to contract award and project handover. You will develop accurate cost estimates, tender programmes, project schedules, risk assessments and pricing strategies while identifying opportunities for value engineering, innovation and cost optimisation.

Working across multiple tenders simultaneously, you will review technical documentation, analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations, prepare bid submissions and presentations, and negotiate contracts prior to award. You will collaborate closely with project managers, operational teams and key stakeholders to ensure tenders are competitive, comprehensive and aligned with business objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing tender processes, including bid/no-bid assessments and pricing submissions
• Preparing detailed cost estimates, cashflows and project schedules
• Identifying project risks, assumptions and qualifications and incorporating these into pricing
• Developing bid strategies and value engineering solutions
• Preparing expressions of interest, registrations and tender submission documents
• Supporting successful project handovers to delivery teams
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, suppliers and subcontractors
• Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, company policies and industry standards

Qualifications and Skills

• Proven experience in electrical estimating across commercial, industrial, infrastructure and maintenance projects
• Strong knowledge of electrical regulations, industry standards, contracting procedures and contract law
• Strong analytical skills with experience conducting risk assessments and pricing reviews
• Proven ability to manage multiple tenders and meet strict submission deadlines
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and relationship-building skills
• Intermediate to Advanced in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word and Project
• Experience using BlueBeam estimating software or similar estimation platforms
• Review electrical drawings, specs and schedules to complete accurate quantity take-offs and scope reviews.
• Identify scope gaps, design discrepancies, exclusions, interfaces and trade responsibilities prior to tender submission.
• Develop detailed labour allowances using established productivity rates, historical project data and project-specific construction methodologies.
• Some knowledge of AS/NZ electrical standards
• Quantity Surveying qualification or similar qualification (advantageous, but not essential)
• An Electrical Practising Licence or a similar relevant qualification
