Job summary

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is hiring a Regulatory Compliance Officer in Napier to protect the Hawke’s Bay environment by responding to pollution events, investigating non-compliance and enforcing actions. You will lead investigations, prepare case files, and work with legal counsel to support enforcement activities.

The ideal candidate has a background in regulatory compliance within government or law enforcement, strong analytical skills, and the ability to engage with stakeholders to uphold

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary degree in Science, Law, Environmental Resource Management or equivalent experience.
• Experience in enforcement, investigations, and applying legislation within government or law enforcement.
• Strong ability to assess complex cases, interpret environmental laws, and manage compliance processes effectively.
• Professional approach to enforcement, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to engage with stakeholders to uphold regulations.
• A full valid driver’s licence is required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to pollution events and investigate non-compliance; ensure appropriate regulatory actions.
• Lead complex compliance and enforcement investigations and prepare case files for regulatory action.
• Assess evidence, manage investigations from initial response to resolution; liaise with legal counsel.
• Engage with individuals, businesses and stakeholders to promote compliance with environmental law.
• Participate in after-hours pollution response roster to ensure timely incident response.
