Job summary

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council in Napier is seeking a Regulatory Compliance Officer to protect the Hawke’s Bay environment by responding to pollution events, investigating non-compliance and pursuing appropriate regulatory actions.

You will lead complex investigations, gather evidence, coordinate with legal counsel and stakeholders, and participate in an after-hours pollution response roster to ensure timely outcomes.

Qualifications

• Relevant regulatory compliance background with enforcement experience.
• Strong ability to assess complex cases and interpret environmental laws.
• Excellent communication skills and proactive conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

• Respond to pollution events and assess regulatory/regulatory actions.
• Lead investigations, gather evidence, and prepare case files for enforcement.
• Engage with individuals, businesses and stakeholders to promote compliance.
• Coordinate with legal counsel and internal specialists to support enforcement.
• Participate in after-hours pollution response roster for timely incidents.
