Job summary

Eastern Institute of Technology is seeking an Engineering Trades Tutor to join the School of Trades and Technology in TairāWhiti, Gisborne. The role delivers theory and hands-on engineering training across programmes, supporting learners toward successful careers in the industry.

The appointment salary ranges from NZD 74,126 to NZD 89,639, dependent on skills and experience. This fixed-term position runs from 11 January 2027 to 10 December 2027 and reports to the Assistant Head of School, Trades

Qualifications

• A relevant engineering qualification at Level 4 or above.
• Current industry experience within the engineering sector.
• Strong practical engineering knowledge and technical skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Passion for developing and supporting learners.
• Ability to engage effectively with diverse learner groups.
• Strong planning, organisational, and time management skills.
• Confidence using digital technologies and Microsoft Office applications.
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice.
• The ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Delivering engaging theory and practical engineering training.
• Supporting tauira to achieve positive learning outcomes.
• Facilitating classroom, workshop, and industry-based learning activities.
• Assessing learner progress and providing meaningful feedback.
• Developing and maintaining teaching and learning resources.
• Contributing to programme development and continuous improvement.
• Building strong relationships with industry and community stakeholders.
• Ensuring compliance with quality assurance and health and safety requirements.
• Providing academic guidance and pastoral support to learners.
• Participating in team, school, and organisational initiatives.
