Job summary

Jora New Zealand is seeking a field-based Geotechnical Technician in Tauranga to support construction and earthworks monitoring, perform field tests, and record results with an experienced engineering team.

This hands-on role involves working on various sites, liaising with builders, and contributing to project documentation. A full NZ driver’s licence and fitness to work outdoors in all weather are required.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction, geotechnical testing, civil works, surveying or similar.
• Willingness to work outdoors on varied sites and weather conditions.
• Ability to follow field procedures and keep accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Construction and earthworks monitoring/supervision
• Geotechnical field testing - hand auger boreholes, Scala penetrometer, shear vane and Clegg hammer testing
• Processing and entering field test results
• Preparing field notes, inspection records and basic technical documentation
• Liaising with builders, contractors and the technical team
• Operating and maintaining field testing gear
• General field and office support as needed

This is a field-based role focused on construction and earthworks monitoring/supervision and geotechnical testing. You'll work out on different sites with hands-on work, no desk-bound days, and no two days that are the same. You'll work closely with an experienced engineering and technical team, with plenty of room to learn. As a small team, you'll get responsibility early and a real hand in getting projects over the line.

About you

• Practical, reliable, keen to get stuck in
• Experience in construction, geotechnical testing, civil works, surveying or similar
• An interest in a career in an engineering consultancy
• Good fitness and comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions
• A full NZ driver's licence
• Solid computer skills and the ability to pick up new systems
• Good attention to detail and record keeping
• Confident communication with builders and contractors
• Ability to work solo and as part of a small team
