Job summary

Pinnacles Civil invites motivated students to join an Engineering Cadetship in Hamilton, New Zealand. You will gain real-world experience while studying toward a NZ Diploma in Engineering (Civil) and earn an income as you learn from experienced professionals.

You'll participate in site inspections, surveying support, contract administration, and coordination, while building health, safety, and quality knowledge on live projects.

Qualifications

• NCEA Level 2 with at least 12 maths credits.
• Restricted driver�s licence as a minimum.
• Some previous work experience (part-time, casual or holiday) is helpful.
• Involvement in sport, clubs, volunteering or community activities.
• Positive attitude and genuine interest in civil engineering.
• Understanding of health and safety and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Work with engineers to develop understanding of civil engineering design and construction.
• Assist with site inspections, surveying activities and geotechnical investigations.
• Learn contract administration and project coordination to help keep projects on track.
• Build knowledge of health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Communicate with colleagues, contractors and clients while supporting project delivery.
• Spend time both in the office and on site to gain a well‑rounded industry view.

Learn, Grow and Get Qualified:

As an Engineering Cadet, you'll work alongside experienced Project Managers and Civil Engineers, gaining practical exposure to every stage of civil projects. This is your chance to develop valuable technical skills while completing your New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Civil).

No two days will be the same. You'll be learning on live projects, asking questions, getting involved, and gradually taking on more responsibility as your confidence grows.

What your days could look like:

• Working alongside Engineers to develop your understanding of civil engineering design and construction.

What we're looking for:

• NCEA Level 2 (or equivalent), including at least 12 mathematics credits (algebra, calculus or trigonometry).
• A restricted driver's licence as a minimum, with plans to obtain your full licence.
• Some previous work experience, whether through part-time, casual or holiday work.
• Involvement in sport, clubs, volunteering, or other community activities.
• A positive attitude and genuine interest in civil engineering.
• An understanding of health and safety and a willingness to learn.
• Level 2 English, Mathematics and Physics or participation in a Gateway programme will be an advantage.
