Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

At Get Electronic, we're not your average repair shop.

We're a highly skilled, motivated and exceptionally well-equipped team based in Christchurch, repairing electronics that other people have given up on. From automotive control modules to industrial electronics, we diagnose, reverse-engineer and repair technology at component level every day.

We're growing, and we're looking for two Electronics Technicians to join our team in Waltham.

If you genuinely enjoy figuring out why something isn't working, rather than just replacing the part someone tells you to replace, you might have found your people.

About the Role

This is a hands-on component-level repair role where you'll be diagnosing faults that don't always come with a schematic, a manual or an obvious answer.

You’ll be working with:

  • Automotive electronic modules including ECUs, TCMs, ABS modules, BCMs, instrument clusters and lighting modules
  • Analogue and digital electronic circuits
  • SMD and through-hole components
  • Power electronics and communication systems
  • Oscilloscopes, multimeters, bench power supplies, microscopes, CAN tools and specialist diagnostic equipment

You’ll be tracing circuits, testing components, finding the cause of failures and developing repair solutions where they don't already exist.

One job might involve tracking down a CAN communication fault. The next might be finding a defective transistor on a board that has no documentation whatsoever.

No two faults are the same, and that's exactly what makes it interesting.

You’ll also document repairs, contribute to our growing repair database, develop test procedures and interact with customers at the counter and over the phone.

About You

We're interested in more than what's written on your CV (although, we’d still like one of those with your application). We want to know how your brain works when something doesn't work.

Were you the kid who pulled things apart just to see how they worked? Do you find yourself staring at a circuit board wondering where that signal goes? Have you built, modified, repaired or tinkered with electronics for years simply because you enjoy it?

That's the sort of person we're looking for.

You’ll ideally have:
  • A strong understanding of electronic and electrical systems
  • Excellent logical and methodical fault-finding skills
  • Experience with component-level diagnosis and repair
  • Good soldering and SMD rework skills
  • Confidence using a multimeter, oscilloscope and bench power supply
  • An understanding of microcontrollers, sensors, communication networks and power electronics
  • The ability to read schematics and circuit diagrams
  • A willingness to reverse-engineer and work things out when the information isn't available
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative approach

Formal qualifications and experience are important, but curiosity, problem-solving ability and a genuine love of electronics are just as important to us.

We're an inclusive team and welcome people with different backgrounds, experiences and ways of thinking. Neurodivergent people are very welcome here and we value the different perspectives they can bring to problem-solving.

What's on Offer

Full-time, permanent role based in Waltham, Christchurch

  • A modern, fully equipped repair lab with state-of-the-art equipment
  • A team that genuinely enjoys what they do and shares knowledge freely
  • Opportunities to work on challenging repairs, R&D and new repair solutions
  • The chance to develop your skills in advanced component-level repair
  • The satisfaction of repairing and reusing technology rather than throwing it away
  • Flexible start and finish times
  • Competitive remuneration based on experience

If you're the sort of person who gets a little too interested in figuring out why something has failed, we'd love to hear from you.
