Job summary

Skills Group in Christchurch is hiring an Electrical Tutor to support student learning through effective knowledge transfer, course facilitation, and assessment. The role focuses on delivering engaging electrical training and coordinating with the learning resources to ensure quality outcomes.

You will assess progress, provide coaching, and contribute to improving teaching practice while maintaining a safe training environment.

Qualifications

  • NZ Electrical Registration is essential.
  • Willingness to obtain Unit Standards 4098 and 11551 with support.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging electrical training across apprentice and industry courses.
  • Assess learner progress and complete marking within required timeframes.
  • Provide coaching and academic guidance to help students succeed.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of programme delivery, teaching practice and learning materials.
  • Maintain a safe, well-equipped training centre and promote health and safety.

Job description

Help shape the future of Aotearoa’s electrical industry. Skills Group is seeking a dedicated Electrical Tutor based in Christchurch to support student learning and achievement through effective transfer of knowledge, course facilitation and student assessment

What You Will Be Doing
  • Deliver engaging, industry-relevant electrical training across apprentice block and industry courses.
  • Assess learner progress, complete marking within required timeframes, and deliver teaching in line with approved learning resources
  • Support learners through coaching, encouragement, and academic guidance to help them succeed in their studies and future careers
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of programme delivery, teaching practice, and learning materials
  • Maintain a safe, organised, and well-equipped training centre that supports effective learning
  • Model and promote excellent health and safety practice, including timely reporting of incidents, hazards, and near misses
What You Will Bring
  • NZ Electrical Registration is essential (Full Practising Licence, Inspectors Licence or Electrical Engineering Degree)
  • Hold Unit Standards 4098 and 11551, or be willing to obtain them with Skills Group's support as part of your professional development.
  • Strong practical experience within the electrical industry
  • Experience in tertiary teaching or training is desirable and development will be provided
  • Strength in student engagement, coaching and communication
  • Good organisational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a regional team
