Omexom New Zealand is seeking a qualified electrical engineer to provide technically sound and cost-effective drawings, specifications, calculations, simulations, and reports for practical construction and tendering needs. You will support power system studies and design protection and control solutions while aligning with Omexom ISO9001 systems and QM19 requirements.

Qualifications

  • Experience interpreting electrical standards and applying sound engineering judgement.
  • Strong understanding of HV and LV power system design, protection, earthing, and network operations.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare technical documentation in line with best engineering practice.
  • Coordinate engineering aspects per ISO9001 and QM19.
  • Perform power system studies including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, and harmonic analyses.
  • Prepare calculations, specifications, design reports, single line diagrams, protection philosophies, and construction documentation.
  • Provide technical support during tendering, planning, procurement, construction, and handover phases.
  • Design and verify protection and control systems, including relay settings, protection coordination, fault analysis.
  • Conduct reviews, feasibility studies, and risk assessments for performance, reliability, safety and resilience.
  • Follow health and safety policy and maintain safe working practices.

In this position, you’ll provide technically appropriate and cost-effective drawings, specifications, calculations, simulations, engineering investigations, and reports on solutions to meet practical construction and/ or tendering requirements making a real impact.

  • Preparing technical documentation in accordance with the best engineering practice
  • Coordinating the engineering aspects of projects in accordance with Omexom ISO9001 systems and Omexom Design Control Procedures QM19
  • Perform power system studies including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, harmonic, and contingency analyses to support safe and reliable network operation.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, design reports, single line diagrams, protection philosophies, and construction documentation.
  • Provide technical support during project tendering, planning, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover phases
  • Design and verify protection and control systems, including relay settings, protection coordination, fault analysis, and system reliability assessments.
  • Conduct engineering reviews, feasibility studies, and risk assessments to ensure projects achieve required performance, reliability, safety, and resilience objectives.
  • Understanding and implementing the company health and safety policy and taking reasonable care of own health and safety and the health and safety of others
Qualifications and skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and/ or a proven track record of engineering design in the Electrical sector
  • Ability to interpret relevant electrical standards and apply sound engineering judgement to complex technical problems.
  • Strong understanding of HV and LV power system design, protection systems, earthing, and network operations.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
