Job summary

eShepherd is a Vision Weigh product under Gallagher, bringing computer-vision-powered animal measurement to farms. You will take the vision module from prototype to reliable hardware running on commercial farms, with a cross-disciplinary team across data, software, firmware, hardware and product.

We value pragmatic development: move fast, test in paddocks, and iterate weekly. Office-first with Hamilton site, and a strong push to scale globally while maintaining animal welfare.

Qualifications

• You have built computer vision into a real product with something you wrote running somewhere beyond your own laptop.
• Strong Python and PyTorch skills with a solid understanding of classical computer vision (segmentation, keypoints, pose estimation, and basic point clouds).
• Experience deploying models on edge hardware (Jetson, onboard NPU, or SBC with accelerator) and understanding latency, memory, thermal limits.
• Experience with depth sensing (stereo, time of flight, or structured light) and calibration.
• Pragmatic data approach with ground truth datasets and experiment tracking/versioning.
• Solid engineering habits: version control, containers, CI, and testing that lets others run your code.
• Fluent with generative AI and agentic coding tools to accelerate work and leverage vision foundation models.

Responsibilities

• Take Vision Weigh from prototype to hardware running on commercial farms.
• Own the vision work with cross-functional teams across data, software, firmware, hardware and product.
• Follow a design-test-deploy-iterate cycle, delivering useful paddock-ready tooling.
• Prefer a useful paddock tool over perfection, and improve weekly.
