Job summary

EVT Group is seeking a proactive Duty Manager for Sherwood Queenstown, a boutique hotel overlooking Lake Wakatipu. You will lead the Front Office team, resolve guest requests with warmth, and uphold EVT's high service standards.

A current Duty Manager's Certificate and Front Office experience are essential; Opera Cloud familiarity is a plus. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you’ll manage daily operations, handle crises, and contribute to a welcoming, well-run property with a genuine Daymaker

Qualifications

• Current Duty Manager's Certificate or equivalent accredited qualification.
• Significant Front Office experience with guest service orientation.
• Excellent leadership and decision-making under pressure.
• Strong communication and welcoming service style.
• Flexible availability including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily Front Office operations and staffing.
• Greet VIPs and manage arrivals/departures; ensure warm welcome.
• Handle complaints professionally and promptly.
• Enhance RevPAR through yield & coordination with departments.
• Maintain duty logs and shift communications for safety and reference.
• Lead the team through crises and protect guests and property.

Role Overview

Sherwood Queenstown is a sustainability-led, boutique hotel set on the hillside overlooking Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables. Blending rustic charm with modern comfort, Sherwood offers a unique retreat focused on wellness, creativity, and community, with thoughtfully curated rooms and a vibrant cultural calendar of live music, art, and wellness experiences.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Duty Manager coordinates and oversees the day-to-day running of the Front Office Department. You'll be the face of Sherwood during your shift, empowered to resolve guest requests and issues, lead the team through any situation that arises, and help maintain the exceptional standard of service Sherwood is known for. This is a rare opportunity to be part of something special, at a hotel with a genuine sense of place and purpose.

This is a permanent full-time position with a minimum guaranteed hours of 30 per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily Front Office operations, ensuring departments are adequately staffed and service standards are consistently upheld
• Be aware of VIP and group arrivals and departures, ensuring all preparations are made and guests feel a genuine sense of welcome
• Manage the hotel complaint system, resolving guest requests and issues professionally and in a timely manner
• Maximise average room rate and occupancy through effective yield management and liaison with key departmental personnel
• Maintain the hotel's duty log, ensuring all relevant shift information is accurately recorded for reference
• Lead the hotel through crisis management action plans when required, ensuring the safety, security and condition of guests, staff and the property at all times
