Job summary

Downer is seeking an experienced Class 5 Driver Operator to join our Otago team. You will operate heavy machinery such as loaders, excavators and rollers, supporting a range of road maintenance projects across the region.

We offer a full-time, permanent role with training and development opportunities. A safety-focused mindset, physical fitness, and teamwork are essential to thrive in this busy field.

Qualifications

• Full Class 5 licence is essential.
• Experience operating truck and trailer units in civil/roading environments.
• WTR endorsements preferred but not essential.
• Good spatial awareness and manoeuvring in tight sites.
• A strong commitment to health & safety practices.
• Physically fit and able to work outdoors.
• Pre-employment drug test, medical and Ministry of Justice check required.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate and maintain heavy machinery including loaders and excavators.
• Support road maintenance projects across Otago with the crew.
• Work across various construction, renewal and maintenance tasks.
• Collaborate with the team to meet safety and project goals.

We are looking for an experienced Class 5 Driver Operator to join our team in Otago. You’ll be part of a tight-knit crew, working across a variety of construction, renewal, and maintenance projects throughout the region.

As a skilled operator, you will safely operate, navigate, and care for heavy machinery. Your day-to-day will include operation of machinery including loaders, excavators, and rollers to support road maintenance activities works.

Ngā pūkenga matua | Important Skills

• Full Class 5 licence (essential)
• Proven experience operating truck & trailer units, ideally within civil/roading environments
