Job summary

Modern Transport Group of Companies’ Hamilton-based team is seeking a Draughtsman to prepare fabrication drawings, BOMs, schematics and assembly instructions from senior engineers’ designs. The role offers progression toward a design engineer position and exposure to bespoke heavy transport projects.

The successful candidate will have strong English, experience in transport, and proficiency with SolidWorks or AutoCAD, plus good mechanical aptitude and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Strong English communicator both written and verbal.
• Experience in transport and an understanding of the Land Transport rules is preferable.
• Experience in SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
• Good mechanical aptitude and be a team player.

Responsibilities

• Producing fabrication drawings and quality control documentation for the production team.
• Producing staged bills of materials for projects.

MTE designs and manufactures a range of trailers and bespoke heavy transport projects for our customers. This is a technical role in Modern Transport Engineers design department. The role will primarily involve preparing bills of materials and working drawings for production from senior engineers’ designs. This role is intended to evolve into a design engineer role for the right candidate.

Modern Transport Group of Companies “MTE Group” is the largest heavy transport manufacturing company in New Zealand, and we are looking for an enthusiastic draughtsman to join our team at our Te Rapa production site.
MTE designs and manufactures a range of trailers and bespoke heavy transport projects for our customers. This is a technical role in Modern Transport Engineers design department. The role will primarily involve preparing bills of materials and working drawings for production from senior engineers’ designs. This role is intended to evolve into a design engineer role for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities:

• Producing fabrication drawings and quality control documentation for the production team
• Producing staged bills of materials for projects
• Producing schematics and assembly instructions
• Detailing machined parts
• Project and quality management
• Design analysis and technical problem solving

The successful candidate will have/be:

• Strong English communicator both written and verbal
• Experience in transport and an understanding of the Land Transport rules is preferable
• Experience in Solidworks or Autocad
• Good mechanical aptitude
• Preferably some practical experience with fabrication
• Work well in a team
• Be welcoming of design reviews and understand the importance of an iterative design process
• Have a strong focus on quality
