Job summary

Mainstream Engineering Consultants seeks an experienced Design Engineer (Mechanical) to design and model process equipment and layouts for heavy industry projects in New Zealand. You will produce robust 3D models, work with project teams, and help deliver practical, compliant engineering solutions from concept through to documentation.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in design engineering, proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D, Inventor and SolidWorks, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering – Mechanical (Design) required.
• 5+ years design engineering experience in heavy industry.
• Proficiency in 3D design software (AutoCAD Plant 3D, Inventor/SolidWorks).
• NZ work rights or eligibility.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; MS Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop 3D models and layouts for process design in heavy industry.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers and designers to deliver compliant solutions.
• Support project delivery with practical, cost-effective outcomes.
• Contribute to documentation and design reviews.
• Maintain a proactive, continuous improvement mindset.

Key skills and attributes for this role include:

• Bachelor of Engineering – Mechanical Engineering (Design).
• Highly proficient in 3D Design packages, including AutoCAD Plant 3D, Inventor/Solidworks.
• 5 + years proven Design Engineering experience in an industrial environment with experience in Pulp and Paper, Food and Beverage and/or other heavy industry.
• Experience in an engineering consultancy environment is preferable.
• Excellent written, communication and Microsoft Office skills.
• Full Class 1 Driver’s License.
• Willingness to take on responsibility and make decisions with a passion for exceeding customer expectations.
• Innovative thinking, with a practical approach and an aspiration to make a positive impact within a supportive team.
