Job summary

WM New Zealand is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our Christchurch team. You will maintain a fleet of over 100 trucks, performing breakdowns, diagnostics and repairs to keep services running safely and reliably.

Key responsibilities include roadworthy maintenance, servicing per schedules, and accurate CMMS record-keeping. A Heavy Diesel Trade Certificate and CMMS familiarity are preferred; Class 4 Licence is advantageous. This is a permanent full-time role based in Christchurch.

Qualifications

• Heavy Diesel Trade Certificate is required.
• Experience with preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and truck repairs.
• CMMS experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain all vehicles to a roadworthy standard and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Carry out breakdowns, diagnostics and repairs on a large variety of faults, both mechanical and electrical.
• Plan vehicle maintenance with Operations Supervisors and coordinate servicing.
• Complete thorough technical inspections of vehicles.
• Keep accurate records of maintenance and repairs in job sheets and the CMMS Vehicle History File.
• Requisition parts and consumables as required and manage workshop tools.

We’re looking for skilled Diesel Mechanics to join our Christchurch team. In this role, you’ll play a vital part in keeping our fleet of over 100 trucks running safely and efficiently. Your work will directly support our essential services and ensure our vehicles remain reliable on the road. You will be tasked with carrying out breakdowns, diagnostics and repairs on a large variety of faults, both mechanical and electrical.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain all vehicles to a roadworthy standard and ensure compliance with regulations
• Carry out vehicle and unit servicing in line with preventative maintenance schedules
• Work with Operations Supervisors to plan vehicle maintenance
• Complete thorough technical inspections of vehicles
• Keep accurate records of maintenance and repairs in job sheets and the in-cab Vehicle History File
• Manage workflow through the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Requisition parts and consumables as required
• Carry out daily checks of workshop tools and equipment to ensure they are serviceable and accounted for

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone with:

• A Heavy Diesel Trade Certificate and proven experience in preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and truck repairs
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems diagnostics and maintenance, and/or automotive electrical/electronic fault diagnosis (preferred)
• Experience using CMMS systems (preferred)
• A Class 4 Driver’s Licence (advantageous but not essential)

What we offer:

• Competitive hourly rate of $40 -$45 an hour depending on experience
• Permanent full-time role
• Location: 301 Marsh's Road, Christchurch
• Hours: 45 hours per week from 15:00PM to 1:30AM, Monday– Thursday 15:00PM to 20:00PM Friday
