Job summary

The Massey University Foundation is seeking a Development Manager to lead major philanthropy initiatives at Massey University. You will build enduring relationships with senior university staff, alumni and donors to secure transformational gifts and support strategic projects.

Join a dynamic, small and dedicated team and shape fundraising strategies, campaigns and donor stewardship across faculties, with opportunities for professional development and access to university benefits.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualification is essential.
  • Minimum of 5 years fundraising experience (preferably in a tertiary environment) or related not-for-profit experience.
  • High level of oral and written skills.
  • High level of communication skills across multiple levels.

Responsibilities

  • Build enduring relationships with senior faculty / college members and Alumni.
  • Contribute to the conceptualisation of strategic philanthropic projects and finalise approved college fundraising plans.
  • Identify, solicit, and cultivate prospects, and steward existing donors in order to secure major donations.
  • Contribute to the development of communication strategies and plans that meet the goals and objectives of the Foundation and the Development office.
  • Engage supporters willing to support agreed fundraising goals with information, introductions and advocacy, and match with prospective donors and organisations.
  • Work with the Development team on agreed fundraising campaigns and targets.

The Massey University Foundation is Massey's own charitable trust responsible for successfully fundraising and stewarding donations on behalf of Massey University.

The Work of the Foundation provides philanthropic funding for projects of strategic importance to the University such as research, academic chairs, scholarships and projects that it could not otherwise afford. Gifts from alumni, staff and friends provide financial strength to the University to support many worthy causes.

The Foundation is looking for seasoned fundraisers who understand the transformational impact that philanthropy creates to join the team in the role of Development Manager.

The Role

As the successful applicant your core focus will be to;

  • Build enduring relationships with senior faculty / college members and Alumni
  • Contribute to the conceptualisation of strategic philanthropic projects and finalise approved college fundraising plans
  • Identify, solicit, and cultivate prospects, and steward existing donors in order to secure major donations
  • Contribute to the development of communication strategies and plans that meet the goals and objectives of the Foundation and the Development office
  • Engage supporters willing to support agreed fundraising goals with information, introductions and advocacy, and match with prospective donors and organisations
  • Work with the Development team on agreed fundraising campaigns and targets
What we are looking for

The role requires a proven track record in fundraising with the ability to think and communicate strategically, deliver sound fundraising plans, manage budgets and be well-versed in donor identification, cultivation, and solicitation and stewarding. To be, you will have;

  • A degree qualification is essential
  • High ethical standards with an ability to deal appropriately with confidential matters
  • Minimum of 5 years fundraising experience (preferably in a tertiary environment) or related not-for-profit experience
  • High level of oral and written skills with the ability to prepare documents and reports for presentation to senior management
  • High level of communication skills with the ability to relate across multiple levels
