Job description

Introducing Daylight

Daylight is an award-winning independent creative and technology studio based in Tāmaki Makaurau. We build ideas that earn a place in people’s lives, rather than just their feeds. Sometimes that’s a brand, sometimes a campaign, sometimes a hard-working app or tool. Whatever the form, we make work that does something real, for clients in global health, media, the public sector and beyond, from start-ups to iconic national brands.

Our team is made up of creatives, designers, strategists, project managers, producers and tech leads and engineers, working with local and international clients from our Morningside HQ. Joining Daylight means joining a journey – one of growth, innovation, and working alongside really nice people who care about what they’re doing.

About the role

As a Designer at Daylight, you need to effectively combine creativity, craft, and usability to help produce beautiful design experiences across our brand identity systems, campaigns content and digital products.

This role sits at the intersection of graphic and digital design. You’ll be responsible for executing and refining design concepts developed by senior team members, helping bring campaign and brand ideas to life with precision and creativity. You’ll work closely with creative and product teams to deliver ideas that scale across multiple formats and channels.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and is energised by working to support team leads across design, development, and storytelling to elevate every brief. This role is for someone who is passionate about good design and craft, and understands the power of design in solving real-world problems.

What the role looks like

An eye for craft – Daylight specialises in visual craft, and this role calls for strong attention to detail and a genuine passion for good design. You’ll bring precision and creativity to every brief, whatever its scale and output.

Collaborative by nature – you’ll thrive in a collaborative environment, energised by supporting team leads across design, development, and storytelling to elevate every brief and deliver ideas that scale across multiple formats and channels.

Translating ideas into experience – taking design systems and visual identities and turning them into digital experiences that feel elegant.

Staying curious – you’ll keep up to date with the latest design formats, tools, AI, and motion, sharing ideas that push creative thinking across the team.

Specific responsibilities

  • Supporting the Executive Creative Director and creative teams in delivering campaign rollouts.
  • Building and extending brand guidelines to ensure consistency across channels and formats.
  • Rolling out creative assets, reports, and visual updates in line with established design systems.
  • Translating design systems and visual identities into digital experiences
  • Building out digital design systems, and working closely with the development team.
  • Supporting new business and pitch efforts by applying visual design skills to bring concepts to life.
Who are we looking for?
  • 6+ years of experience in a creative agency or digital studio environment.
  • Experience working across both graphic and digital design projects.
  • Proficient in Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Strong craft skills and attention to detail.
  • A clear understanding of information hierarchy and how to create clarity from complexity.
  • A collaborative mindset — energised by working as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and solving complex problems creatively.
  • A portfolio that showcases your experience, craft, and thinking.
Why our team loves working at Daylight
  • We work on challenges that make a real-world difference
  • We balance work and life through flexible policies and a culture that values wellbeing.
  • We partner with Extraordinary to provide a quarterly wellbeing allowance to spend on looking after yourself.
  • We offer an extra day of birthday leave, and a week of ‘work‑from‑anywhere’ days.
  • Our culture is high‑trust and collaborative, where ideas are welcomed and explored.
  • We invest in your learning and development, enabling you to develop your craft and career.
  • We’ve got a well‑stocked snacks and drinks cupboard.
  • Our HQ in The Chambers Morningside, is dog-friendly and close to public transport.
  • Enjoy team lunches, coffee catch‑ups, and Friday beers.
Approach to flexible working

For this role, we are looking for an Auckland-based candidate. As with all hands‑on creative roles, we believe the best work comes from being closely connected with our team in person. We have WFH days that are aligned across the team but this role is expected to be majority office-based.

Our values

As a business, Daylight acknowledges Te Tiriti o Waitangi and recognises that Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei are mana whenua of the land where the Daylight office is based in Tāmaki Makaurau.

We believe in the power of diverse perspectives and inclusive storytelling. If you feel like you’d be a great fit for this role but don’t meet every single requirement, reach out. We’d love to hear from you.
