Job summary

DTS is seeking a Design Engineer to join our small on-site team in Normanby, South Taranaki, focusing on the mechanical design of stainless steel tanks, vats, pressure vessels and other specialised equipment.

You’ll design with SolidWorks/AutoCAD, produce fabrication drawings, and work with production to ensure on-time delivery and manufacturability. 3+ years of experience preferred; NZ work eligibility required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience in mechanical design engineering.
• A relevant mechanical engineering qualification.
• Strong 3D CAD capability (SolidWorks preferred).
• Good understanding of fabrication and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to think practically - not just technically.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
• Confident communicator who works well across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical systems and stainless steel equipment using SolidWorks/AutoCAD.
• Produce detailed fabrication drawings and assemblies.
• Apply mechanical engineering principles to ensure strength, performance, and compliance.
• Design with manufacturability in mind - making life easier for the workshop.

About the role

As a Design Engineer within our small design team, you’ll be responsible for the mechanical design of stainless steel tanks, vats, pressure vessels and other specialised equipment.

You’ll need to ensure that they are structurally sound, fit for manufacturing, are compliant and meet customer requirements.

This is a full time, 40 hours per week role, based on site in Normanby, South Taranaki.

What you'll be doing

• Designing mechanical systems and stainless steel equipment using SolidWorks / AutoCAD
• Producing detailed fabrication drawings and assemblies
• Applying mechanical engineering principles to ensure strength, performance, and compliance
• Designing with manufacturability in mind - making life easier for the workshop
