Job summary

Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake is seeking an experienced Data Product Owner to lead the ongoing development and improvement of the organisation's data products. You will collaborate with data users, insurers and partners to translate needs into practical solutions and validate outcomes.

Reporting to the Head of Data Systems, you will shape product priorities, strengthen data governance and quality, and ensure data is secure, trusted and fit for purpose across the lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Five or more years’ experience in a similar data-focused role.
• Experience translating business needs into clear requirements, priorities and measurable outcomes.
• Strong data product management skills, including roadmap development, backlog management, prioritisation and continuous improvement.
• Experience identifying and resolving complex data and technical issues.
• Demonstrated experience improving data quality and embedding governance and stewardship practices.
• Strong stakeholder and third-party relationship management skills, with the ability to build trust, influence decisions and negotiate priorities.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to make technical information meaningful for different audiences.

Responsibilities

• Manage and continuously improve data products, including data supplied by insurers and other partners.
• Work directly with data throughout the lifecycle—from analysis and issue investigation through to documenting changes and enhancements, testing changes, and confirming data quality.
• Shape product roadmaps and priorities by translating business and partner needs into clear requirements and planned improvements.
• Bring together business and technical expertise to investigate and resolve complex data and technical issues.
• Lead initiatives that strengthen data quality, governance, stewardship and accountability.
• Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, insurers, service providers and industry partners.
• Identify and progress responsible AI opportunities that improve data products, data quality and business outcomes.
