Job summary

Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake in Christchurch, NZ is seeking an experienced Data Product Owner to lead the ongoing development of data products, ensure data quality and governance, and translate business needs into practical data solutions. Reporting to the Head of Data Systems, you will connect business needs with data solutions and help ensure data is secure and fit for purpose.

You will work with insurers and partners to shape roadmaps, prioritise improvements, and balance business

Qualifications

• Five or more years’ experience in a similar data-focused role.
• Experience translating business needs and partner challenges into clear requirements, priorities and measurable outcomes.
• Strong data product management skills, including roadmap development, backlog management, prioritisation and continuous improvement.
• Experience identifying and resolving complex data and technical issues.
• Demonstrated experience improving data quality and embedding effective governance and stewardship practices.
• Strong stakeholder and third-party relationship management skills, with the ability to build trust, influence decisions and negotiate priorities.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to make technical information meaningful for different audiences.

About the role | Mō te mahi We are looking for an experienced Data Product Owner to lead the ongoing development and improvement of NHC’s data products. You will work directly with data to understand problems, define practical solutions, validate outcomes, and improve the quality and usefulness of NHC’s data. Reporting to the Head of Data Systems, you will connect business needs, partner challenges and strategic priorities with practical data solutions. You will shape product priorities, strengthen data quality and governance, and bring together business and technical expertise to resolve complex issues. Working closely with teams across NHC, insurers and other partners, you will help ensure our data is secure, trusted and fit for purpose.
