Job summary

Sky New Zealand is seeking a Data & Business Intelligence Analyst to cover maternity leave for 9 months on a fixed-term contract in Auckland, supporting design, build and maintenance of reporting and analytics across the business.

You will translate business requirements into robust data models and dashboards, enabling confident decision making. The role involves working with multiple teams, and requires flexibility to work across Auckland CBD and Mt Wellington offices.

Qualifications

  • Strong SQL skills and data modelling experience.
  • Experience building dashboards and data models in Power BI.
  • Experience with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake or Databricks.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in agile environments and managing multiple stakeholder requests.

Responsibilities

  • Write efficient SQL to extract, transform and validate data from source systems.
  • Develop and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports with data models and visuals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate into technical specs.
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity across reporting outputs.
  • Support UAT and incorporate stakeholder feedback before production release.
  • Document data models, ETL/ELT pipelines and reporting logic.
  • Identify opportunities to automate reporting and enhance self-service analytics.
  • Collaborate with engineering on data pipelines and schema changes.
  • Advise on appropriate data visualization approaches for different contexts.
  • Work with BI Manager to leverage company data for solutions.

This role supports the design, build and maintenance of reporting and analytics solutions across the business, helping teams turn data into clear, actionable insight.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data & Business Intelligence Analyst to join our Data, Research and Insights team, proving maternity leave cover for the next 9 months on a fixed term contract. This role supports the design, build and maintenance of reporting and analytics solutions across the business, helping teams turn data into clear, actionable insight.

Working closely with stakeholders in across teams such as Ad Sales, Insights and Commercial teams, you’ll translate business requirements into robust data models, dashboards and reporting outputs that support confident decision making.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the full analytics lifecycle — from working with raw data in the warehouse, to modelling it cleanly, validating accuracy, and presenting it in a way that helps the business make better decisions. As part of the wider Research, Data & Insights team, you’ll contribute to reliable, effective reporting and self-service analytics capability across Rangiata Sky.

Due to the breadth of teams and stakeholders you’ll collaborating with, being flexible to work across both of our Auckland offices (CBD and Mt Wellington) is required.

NGĀ HAEPAPA | ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Write efficient, well-structured SQL to extract, transform and validate data from source systems.
  • Develop and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports, including data models, DAX measures and visualisations tailored to stakeholder needs.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into clear technical specifications.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency and integrity across reporting outputs, troubleshooting and resolving data quality issues as needed.
  • Support UAT processes for new or updated dashboards, incorporating stakeholder feedback ahead of sign-off and production release.
  • Maintain clear documentation of data models, ETL/ELT pipelines and reporting logic.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting efficiency, automate manual processes and enhance self-service analytics capability.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on data pipeline and schema changes required to support new reporting requirements.
  • Advise on appropriate use of data visualisation tools and techniques for different purposes and context.
  • Work with the Business Intelligence Manager to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions.
NGĀ PŪKENGA ME NGĀ WHEAKO | WHAT YOU’LL BRING

The ideal candidate will bring experience working with databases, business intelligence tools and analysis, along with proven capability building data transformation pipelines and creating reporting outputs that meet stakeholder needs.

You’ll have strong SQL skills, hands-on experience building dashboards and data models in Power BI or similar tools, and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences. Experience with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, Databricks or similar, as well as solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modelling, will be highly valued.

  • Strong SQL skills, with the ability to write and optimise complex queries across large datasets.
  • Hands-on experience building dashboards, reports and data models in Power BI or similar tools.
  • Experience working with databases, business intelligence tools and analysis.
  • Proven experience building data transformation pipelines.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working in an agile environment and managing multiple stakeholder requests and priorities.
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modelling;
  • A strong sense of personal accountability and commercial acumen.
