Job description

Kia ora,

At PwC, our purpose is clear: to build trust in society and solve important problems.

This is a place to keep growing. You’ll learn from the best, take on meaningful challenges, and make a lasting impact for our clients, our communities, and Aotearoa.

Ngā Kōrero mo tēnei tūranga / About the role

We're looking for a Senior Analyst to join our growing Data team in Pōneke / Wellington or Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland.

This is an exciting opportunity for a data engineering professional who enjoys combining technical expertise, data analysis, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement to deliver modern cloud-based data solutions. Working across enterprise transformation programmes, you'll help clients understand and solve complex data problems, design, build and optimise scalable data platforms that create trusted, analytics-ready data and deliver real business value.

You'll work with a broad range of clients and technologies, partnering with business and technical stakeholders to solve complex challenges, modernise data capabilities and enable data-driven decision making. The role offers exposure across the full project lifecycle, from discovery and solution design through to development, deployment, analysis, and ongoing optimisation.

What you'll be doing:

  • Partnering with clients and project teams to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions.
  • Designing, building and deploying modern data platforms and pipelines using technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks and Snowflake.
  • Developing robust ETL/ELT processes that transform and curate data from multiple source systems into trusted datasets.
  • Building and optimising SQL, Python and Spark solutions to support data analysis, automation, performance and scalability.
  • Using AI-enabled development tools and ways of working to accelerate analysis, coding, testing, troubleshooting and documentation, while applying appropriate judgement, quality and security controls.
  • Analysing complex datasets to identify patterns, issues and opportunities, and using visualisation and clear narrative to help stakeholders understand what the data is telling them.
  • Contributing to data architecture, solution design, technical specifications and delivery planning.
  • Supporting enterprise data governance, metadata management and data quality initiatives.
  • Facilitating workshops and engaging directly with business stakeholders, translating data, analysis and technical concepts into practical business outcomes.
  • Implementing CI/CD practices and Infrastructure as Code to support repeatable and scalable deployments.
  • Troubleshooting platform, integration and data quality issues across client environments.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across data, analytics, risk and technology to deliver high-impact transformation outcomes.

You’ll bring:
  • 3+ years' experience in Data Engineering, Data & Analytics, Technology Consulting, or a related field, with a track record of delivering data-driven solutions for clients.
  • Strong consulting and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and translate business needs into practical technology and data outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explore unfamiliar datasets, identify patterns or issues, test hypotheses and communicate what the data is telling you through clear analysis and visualisation.
  • Experience contributing to enterprise transformation, cloud modernisation, or data platform initiatives in complex environments.
  • Hands‑on experience designing and delivering modern data solutions using cloud technologies such as Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar platforms.
  • Strong technical foundations in data engineering, analytics and modern data architectures, including ETL/ELT, data modelling, APIs/integration, cloud-native and lakehouse approaches.
  • An understanding of data governance, data management, and data quality practices, with exposure to governance and metadata management tools advantageous.
  • Experience working with modern development and deployment practices, including automation, CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.
