We're looking for a Data Analyst with 3-5 years' experience to join our team and deliver market insights for one of New Zealand's largest retail clients.

This role blends deep technical data skills with client-facing consulting. You'll work closely with a high-profile client, translating complex consumer spending data into clear, compelling insights - from granular analytical reporting through to executive-level trend summaries for senior leadership.

Based in Wellington, Marketview are experts in analysing large and complex datasets to deliver actionable insights into consumer spending behaviour. We work with many of New Zealand’s largest retailers and public sector organisations, helping them understand trends, performance, and opportunities through clear, data-driven intelligence.

About the Role

This is a dedicated client-facing role, sitting at the intersection of data analytics and strategic consulting. You'll be the primary analytical resource for one of New Zealand’s largest retail clients, owning the end-to-end delivery of insights - from SQL-driven data extraction through to polished executive presentations.

You’ll bring 3-5 years' experience in data analytics or insights roles, strong SQL skills, and the confidence to manage a demanding, high-profile client relationship with professionalism and polish.

What You'll Be Doing

• Support the delivery of regular market insights, performance reporting, and trend analysis for a key client
• Write efficient SQL to extract, transform, and analyse large consumer transaction datasets
• Develop analytical scripts in R or Python to solve problems and uncover patterns in the data
• Translate data into clear, concise outputs - whether that's a summary for senior leadership or a detailed drill-down for operational teams
• Proactively identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities within the data
• Work independently to solve analytical problems and be a real self starter
• Collaborate with senior team members to support client presentations and strategic recommendations
• Grow into owning pieces of the client relationship as you develop in the role

What We’re Looking For

• 3-5 years' experience in a data analyst or insights role
• Strong SQL skills (this is critical to success in this role)
• Proficiency in R or Python for data analysis
• Advanced Excel skills
• Ability to build clear, well-structured presentations in PowerPoint
• A problem solver - someone who thinks laterally and doesn’t wait to be told what to do
• Comfortable working independently and managing your own workload
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to work under pressure
• Clear communicator who can tailor outputs to different audiences
• Experience with BI or analytical platforms
• Background in consumer insights, market research, or retail analytics
• Familiarity with cloud data warehouses (e.g. Amazon Redshift)
