Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Auckland Hospital seeks a Section Leader in Diagnostic Genetics to lead the Cytogenomics team, ensuring accurate, timely results for prenatal, postnatal and acquired testing. You will maintain ISO 15189 accreditation and drive continuous improvement across testing, documentation and training.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Medical Laboratory Science and NZ MSL registration.
• Current Annual Practising Certificate required.
• Recent experience in diagnostic cytogenetics including chromosome analysis.
• Experience with chromosomal microarray analysis.
• Demonstrated leadership in a diagnostic medical laboratory.
• Knowledge of ISO 15189 and quality management systems.
• Ability to lead service improvement and manage change.
• Strong communication with scientists, clinicians, quality and operations teams.
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equitable health outcomes.
• Experience across prenatal, postnatal and acquired cytogenomic testing.
• Postgraduate development in health management or leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead Cytogenomics team and oversee ISO 15189 accreditation and testing delivery.
• Oversee testing processes, QA, documentation and audit trails.
• Coordinate workload, staffing and resources for timely results.
• Drive method development, validation and service improvements.
