Job summary

Whitestone Contracting is seeking a practical Cyclic Operator to patrol the Waitaki road network, identify defects and hazards, and carry out minor repairs with safety in mind.

The role involves working across routes, recording work, and reporting needs to the maintenance team. A full Class 2 licence is required, with training available for additional licences. This is a hands-on, independent role with real impact on road safety.

We're looking for a practical, reliable person to join our Road Maintenance team as a Routine Patrol Operator.

This is a hands‑on role travelling across the Waitaki road network, identifying defects and hazards, carrying out minor repairs and reporting anything that needs further attention.

You'll be trusted to use your initiative, take ownership of your work and leave the road safer than you found it. No two days are the same, and the work you do will make a real difference to the people using our roads every day.

Your days will be varied and may include:

• Carrying out scheduled patrols across the road network
• Identifying road defects, hazards and maintenance needs
• Completing minor repairs while out on patrol
• Responding to customer requests, weather events and urgent issues
• Making unsafe areas secure until further repairs can be completed
• Accurately recording and reporting completed and required work
• Working independently while supporting the wider maintenance team

We're looking for someone who:

• Is practical, hands‑on and comfortable using tools
• Has a great attitude and a strong work ethic
• Takes pride in doing a job properly
• Is observant, organised and able to use their initiative
• Can work safely and confidently on their own
• Communicates well and represents Whitestone professionally
• Is keen to learn and develop new skills

Previous road maintenance or civil construction experience would be useful, but it isn't essential. Experience in farming, trades, construction, property maintenance or another practical role could also transfer well.

A full Class 2 driver licence is required. Additional licences or traffic management experience would be an advantage, but we're prepared to train the right person.
