Job description

Full-time | Fixed-term to 26 February 2027 | Te Awamutu | Available immediately

Are you a people person who enjoys helping others and creating great customer experiences?

We’re looking for a Customer Experience Officer – Frontline to join our Customer Experience team at our Te Awamutu office. This is a full-time, fixed-term opportunity through to 26 February 2027, available immediately.

You’ll be one of the first points of contact for our customers, working at the front counter and helping to make every interaction a positive one.

What’s involved?

You’ll respond to customer enquiries, process transactions and work across a range of Council services and systems. No two days will be quite the same, and you’ll have the opportunity to build your knowledge of local government and gain exposure to the wider organisation.

You’ll receive training and support from our dedicated Customer Experience Trainer, so you don’t need to know everything from day one.

What’s important is that you bring a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and a genuine commitment to providing great customer service.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys working with people and providing great customer service
  • Is confident and comfortable dealing with customers face-to-face
  • Is comfortable using technology and learning new systems
  • Has strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Can remain calm and positive when dealing with challenging situations
  • Enjoys a fast-paced environment and is open to learning and change
  • Is keen to learn and develop their understanding of Council services

Previous frontline customer service and cash-handling experience would be beneficial, particularly experience in a busy customer-facing environment. However, we’re also interested in people with transferable skills and the right attitude.

This is a great opportunity to join a supportive team, develop your customer service skills and gain valuable experience working across a range of Council services.

You’ll be supported by an experienced team and our dedicated Customer Experience Trainer, with plenty of opportunity to learn and build your confidence in the role.

Applications close at 10:00pm on Sunday, 11 October 2026.
