Job summary

PHO SHO LIMITED in Porirua is seeking enthusiastic cooks to join a busy kitchen team. This permanent, full‑time role offers guaranteed hours between 30 and 60 per week, with a pay rate of NZD 25.00–28.00 per hour depending on skills and experience.

Applicants should have at least one year in a commercial kitchen or a Level 4 cookery qualification. Knowledge of Vietnamese cuisine is advantageous but not essential, and the successful candidate will work under standard food safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Check ingredients and ensure freshness.
• Prepare ingredients, wash, trim, portion food.
• Cook and prepare dishes according to recipes and menu.
• Monitor oven, grill, fryer temperatures and adjust as needed.
• Season and present food, add sauces and garnishes.
• Store food properly in temperature-controlled areas.
• Prepare meals for dietary requirements when needed.
• Assist with menu planning and estimating food needs.
• Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering.

PHO SHO LIMITED is a Vietnamese eatery serving authentic Vietnamese dishes. We are looking for enthusiastic and reliable Cooks to join our busy kitchen team.

Position: CookLocation: Porirua, Wellington region Employment Type: Permanent, Full-timeWorking Hours: Guaranteed Minimum 30 hours per week, maximum 60 hours per week
Pay Rate: NZD $25.00 – $28.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Checking food ingredients to make sure they are fresh and of good quality.
• Preparing ingredients, including washing, cutting, chopping and portioning food.
• Preparing and cooking food according to recipes and menu requirements.
• Checking and adjusting the temperature of ovens, grills, fryers and other cooking equipment.
• Seasoning food during preparation and cooking.
• Portioning and presenting cooked food, including adding sauces and garnishes.
• Storing food correctly in refrigerators, freezers and other temperature-controlled areas.
• Preparing meals for customers with special dietary requirements when needed.
• Checking the quality of food during preparation and cooking.
• Assisting with menu planning and estimating food requirements when required.
• Monitoring stock levels and helping to order and rotate food supplies.
• Keeping the kitchen, equipment and work areas clean and hygienic.
• Following food safety and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Assisting with training or guiding other kitchen staff when required.

• At least one year of relevant work experience in a commercial kitchen; or
• A Level 4 qualification in cookery or a related field.

Applicants should also:

• Have good knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques.
• Be able to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
• Have a good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety.
• Be reliable, punctual and able to work as part of a team.
• Be available to work rostered shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.

Experience preparing Vietnamese cuisine would be an advantage but is not essential.
