Job summary

Healthvision is seeking a dedicated support worker to assist a person with complex needs in Upper Hutt. You will provide structured, reliable, person-centred care, support daily living tasks, personal care and home management, and help the individual achieve positive goals within the community.

The role requires resilience, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to work a rotating roster including sleepovers and weekends in a community setting. Must have NZ work rights.

Qualifications

  • Experience in personal care preferred.
  • Experience with intellectual and physical disabilities advantageous.
  • Must have legal right to work in New Zealand.

Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centred care and support daily living activities.
  • Assist with complex personal care and household management.
  • Support with meals, exercise programmes and community access.
  • Assist with mobility, transfers and medication support.
  • Contribute to safety and wellbeing of service users.

About the Position | Te Mahi

We are seeking a support worker to support an individual with complex needs, requiring structure, reliability, and strong attention to detail. This role involves delivering person-centered care, supporting daily living activities, personal care (PC), and home management (HM).

Job Location: Hutt Valley - Upper Hutt
Responsibilities may include:
  • Working closely with our Service Users to provide support as they go about their daily tasks
  • Assisting with complex personal care
  • Assisting with household management and meal preparation
  • Supporting exercise programmes
  • Assisting with accessing the community
  • Bowel, Bladder, and Catheter Care
  • Moving and handling hoists and manual transfers
  • Medication support
  • Support the Service Users in achieving positive goals in their lives and contribute to the effective day-to-day running of the services
  • Maintaining the Service User’s safety and well-being.
Employment Type: Permanent Part-Time (Up to 29 Hours)

Days of work: As this is community-based work, rotating rosters would be involved, including am, pm, and weekend shifts.

The role also requires availability for sleepovers and weekend shifts. The duration of these hours may vary, ranging from shorter to longer periods, depending on the specific needs of the people we support.

Hours required:
  • Monday to Friday: 9:30am – 10:30am and 8:00pm – 9:00pm
  • Saturday: 10:30am – 11:30am and 8:00pm – 9:00pm
  • Sunday: 9:00am – 10:00am and 8:00pm – 9:00pm

You are a calm under pressure, but confident-natured individual who can demonstrate resilience and understand the challenges of our service users. There are many responsibilities associated with being a support worker which can be challenging and fulfilling. It is rewarding when you are part of the support that enables a person to live their best lives in the community.

The candidate would have (Candidate Pre-Requisites):
  • Ideally, prior personal care experience is preferred.
  • Experience in working with intellectual and physical disabilities is advantageous.
  • Highly organised and dependable
  • Fun, friendly, and outgoing
  • Physically fit and active
  • Familiarity with complex medical conditions, like spinal injuries, traumatic brain injury
  • Access to a car and ability to drive independently (a full Driver's License is preferred)
  • Ability to drive a mobility van (training available)
  • A Level 3 or Level 4 Health and Wellbeing qualification is preferred, and those looking to enter the healthcare sector will also be considered (comprehensive training can be provided)
  • Flexibility to travel anywhere in and around Upper Hutt
  • Flexibility to work on a rotating roster
  • A legal right to work in New Zealand is a must.

  • Pay Band: $24.61 to $31.40 per hour (This is based on the Pay Equity Settlement 2017 – hourly pay rates based on equivalency of Healthcare Qualifications assessed under Pay Equity).
