Job summary

Inspire Services Group – Lower Hutt, North Island is seeking a senior commercial leader to own the group’s commercial function. You will build the framework for pricing, revenue recognition and contract governance across four businesses, setting the standards and acting as the commercial conscience at board level.

You will lead the estimating function across electrical, plumbing and mechanical trades, manage risk and retentions, and drive monthly reviews with project managers to ensure timely

Qualifications

• Senior commercial experience in construction, building services or subcontracting.
• Strong knowledge of NZ construction contracts and retentions.
• Ability to read and challenge pricing and cost reports across trades.

Responsibilities

• Own commercial performance across the group including margin, WIP, and forecast accuracy.
• Lead and standardise the estimating function across electrical, plumbing, and mechanical businesses.
• Set tender strategy and approve submissions before they leave the door.
• Negotiate head contracts and subcontracts including NZS 3910 and bespoke forms.
• Drive progress claims, variations and final accounts to ensure revenue is claimed and collected on time.
• Oversee procurement and supplier agreements to leverage group buying power.
• Run monthly commercial reviews with project managers and report to senior management.
• Build capability in project managers and estimators for commercial discipline.

Inspire Services Group – Lower Hutt, North Island

This is a group-wide commercial leadership role in a business that is growing quickly with a rock solid pipeline and is preparing for the future. You would own the commercial function across all four businesses, from how work is priced through to how payment is collected. This is not a role where you inherit a mature system and administer it. You will be building the framework, setting the standards and being the commercial conscience of the group at board level.

Key responsibilities

• Own commercial performance across the group, including margin, WIP, and forecast accuracy
• Lead and standardise the estimating function across the electrical, plumbing and mechanical businesses
• Set tender strategy, review pricing and approve submissions before they leave the door
• Negotiate and administer head contracts and subcontracts, including NZS 3910 and bespoke forms
• Manage contractual risk, retentions and the Retentions Regime obligations
• Drive progress claims, variations and final accounts so revenue is claimed and collected on time
• Oversee procurement and supplier agreements, and leverage group buying power
• Run monthly commercial reviews with project managers and report to senior management
• Handle disputes, extensions of time and claims, engaging external advisors where needed
• Build capability in project managers and estimators so commercial discipline sits with the delivery teams

About you

• Senior commercial experience in construction, building services or subcontracting, ideally across multiple entities
• Strong working knowledge of NZ construction contracts, the Construction Contracts Act and retentions requirements
• Proven ability to read and challenge pricing and cost reports across more than one trade discipline
• Commercial and financial fluency, including WIP, cost to complete and forecasting
• Leadership experience and the credibility to hold a project manager to account without losing the relationship
• Relevant qualification in quantity surveying, construction management, commerce or a trade background with commercial experience
