Job summary

TW Construction is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team in New Zealand. You will support the Commercial Manager and lead cost estimation, contract advice, and financial controls across diverse projects.

Ideal candidates will have a Diploma or Bachelor’s in Quantity Surveying, at least 7 years’ experience in construction, and familiarity with JobPac or Procore. A strong commercial acumen and leadership abilities are essential.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying or similar.
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience in Quantity Surveying within the Construction Industry.
  • Familiarity with JobPac and Procore project management systems.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and relevant legislation.
  • Proven track record of accurate estimating and successful project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cost estimates for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
  • Provide expert advice on commercial, contractual, and procurement matters.
  • Manage and monitor high-risk project budgets and risk management.
  • Administer contracts, including variations, claims and disputes resolution.
  • Analyse project financial performance and recommend profitability improvements.

About the Role

Are you ready to take the next step in your quantity surveying career? We are looking for an experienced and driven Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team and contribute to a diverse portfolio of exciting construction projects across the North Island.

Reporting to and supporting the Commercial Manager, you will play a key role in the successful commercial delivery of projects, providing expert financial, contractual, and strategic advice throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with regional project and commercial teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with company standards and objectives.

Success in this role requires strong commercial acumen, a thorough understanding of construction methodologies and processes, and the ability to develop, implement, and continuously improve financial systems and project controls. As a trusted advisor to project teams, you will provide valuable insights and leadership to support informed decision-making and drive successful project outcomes.

What does this look like?

Act as the Second-in-Charge (2IC) to the Commercial Manager, providing leadership, operational oversight, and decision-making support to ensure effective day-to-day business operations and continuity.

Lead the preparation of accurate cost estimates for residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects.

Provide expert advice on commercial, contractual, and procurement matters.

Manage and monitor high-risk project budgets, ensuring financial viability and proactive risk management.

Maintain effective control of labour, material, and programme costs while identifying and mitigating commercial risks.

Prepare tender documents, evaluate bids, and negotiate contracts with suppliers and subcontractors.

Administer construction contracts, including the management of variations, claims, and dispute resolution.

Analyse project financial performance, providing recommendations to improve profitability and commercial outcomes.

Analyse market trends and provide commercial insights to support business planning, pricing strategies, and decision-making.

What do you need to succeed?

Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying or similar is essential.

A minimum of 7 years’ experience in Quantity Surveying within the Construction Industry.

Familiarity with JobPac and/or Procore project management systems will be highly regarded.

Strong understanding of construction contracts and relevant legislation.

Proven track record of accurate estimating and successful project delivery.

Ability to confidently identify problems, evaluate solutions, and implement the best outcomes.

Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency in construction cost estimation software and Microsoft Office Suite.
