Job summary

Foodstuffs North Island is seeking a Commercial Analyst to partner with Merchandise Buying and deliver high‑quality financial analysis, reporting and insights. You’ll support category reviews, supplier negotiations and performance management, turning numbers into clear recommendations for the business.

You’ll bring at least three years’ analytics experience with strong Excel and data summarisation skills, plus a collaborative, proactive mindset to drive commercial outcomes.

Qualifications

• Three years’ relevant analytics experience in FMCG/retail.
• Strong Excel skills with ability to analyse large datasets.
• Experience translating data into clear, actionable insights.
• High attention to detail with broad business awareness.
• Proactive, curious mindset to uncover opportunities.
• Collaborative, able to form and share views.
• Ability to deliver high volumes of quality work amid shifting priorities.
• Knowledge of SAP, SQL, Cognos or Power BI is a plus.

Te Tūranga – About the role

Reporting to the Commercial Analyst Team Lead and working within the Commercial Buying team, you’ll partner closely with our Merchandise Buying teams to deliver high-quality financial analysis, reporting and commercial insights.

You’ll support category reviews, supplier negotiations and category performance management, helping the business understand what the numbers are telling us and where the greatest opportunities lie!

What you'll be doing:

• Delivering commercial analysis and reporting to support Customer Driven Range reviews and source-of-supply negotiations.
• Helping Buying teams establish negotiation strategies, targets and fact-based commercial positions.
• Participating in supplier negotiations to support the delivery of targeted benefits.
• Measuring the impact of implemented changes and preparing reporting for Members and executives.
• Providing ad hoc analysis to support informed commercial decisions across Merchandise.
• Improving reporting through effective use of the business intelligence toolset.
• Challenging and improving existing business processes, policies and ways of working.

You’re analytical, commercially minded and naturally inquisitive. You enjoy getting into the detail, but you can also step back, see the bigger picture and communicate what matters in a way that others can understand and act on.

You’ll bring:

• At least three years’ relevant experience, ideally in an analytics-based role within an FMCG or retail environment.
• Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyse and summarise large, complex datasets.
• Experience translating information into clear insights that support stronger commercial outcomes.
• High attention to detail, balanced with an understanding of broader business priorities.
• A proactive, curious mindset and a genuine desire to investigate opportunities more deeply.
• A collaborative working style, with the confidence to form your own views and recommendations.
• The ability to deliver a high volume of quality work while responding flexibly to changing priorities.
• Knowledge of SAP, SQL, Cognos or Power BI would be advantageous.
