Job summary

The University of Auckland is seeking an experienced Clinical Case Manager to support students with complex personal or wellbeing needs. You will assess needs, develop individual support plans, advocate for students, and coordinate warm transfers to internal and external services.

You will work collaboratively with students, staff, and the wider university community to ensure timely, respectful, and holistic support, drawing on your clinical or wellbeing expertise and strong judgment.

Qualifications

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in social work, occupational therapy, mental health nursing, or a similar allied health field, with current registration under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003.
  • Proficiency in Te Reo Maori or Pacific languages is a must-have in this role.
  • At least five years' experience working with or providing mental health support to students or young people.
  • Demonstrated experience using a case management approach to support individuals with a range of needs.
  • Strong understanding of issues affecting students and young people, with the ability to work confidently with sensitive matters.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, listening, and problem-solving skills.
  • Cultural competence and an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its implications for professional practice in Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and learning new University systems.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and triaging referrals and concerns from students, staff, and members of the University community.
  • Gathering information, assessing risk, and developing appropriate support plans and referral pathways.
  • Connecting students with the right support, from self-help resources through to specialist internal and external services.
  • Providing advocacy and ongoing case management for students with multiple or complex needs.
  • Responding to sensitive and potentially high-risk situations with professionalism, care, and sound judgement.
  • Maintaining accurate case notes, reports, and confidential records while ensuring information is handled appropriately.
  • Building strong relationships with University teams and community support providers to ensure students can access the right help.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement by identifying trends, barriers, and opportunities to strengthen the service.
