Job summary

Higgins is seeking a Class 5 Driver to join the Napier team operating our bitumen tanker fleet. Based in Napier, you will deliver and transfer bitumen safely and efficiently between Napier Port and Awatoto, supporting Manufacturing and Port operations.

Some travel further afield may be required. This is an opportunity to become a specialist operator within a close-knit, high-performing team, with ongoing training, modern equipment, and genuine career development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Class 5 licence required.
• Experience driving truck and trailer units preferred.
• Strong commitment to health, safety and professional driving standards.
• Comfort with smartphones, tablets and electronic logbook systems.

Responsibilities

• Operate a Class 5 Hino 700 bitumen tanker and trailer.
• Deliver and transfer bitumen between Napier Port and Awatoto.
• Manage pump operations and specialised bitumen handling equipment.
• Complete electronic logbooks and operational reporting using smart devices.
• Work closely with the wider Manufacturing and Port team.
• Maintain high standards of safety, vehicle care and customer service.

What You'll Be Doing

• Operating a Class 5 Hino 700 bitumen tanker and trailer
• Safely delivering and transferring bitumen between sites
• Managing pump operations and specialised bitumen handling equipment
• Completing electronic logbooks and operational reporting using smart devices
• Working closely with the wider Manufacturing and Port team
• Maintaining high standards of safety, vehicle care, and customer service

What You'll Bring

• Class 5 licence
• Experience driving truck and trailer units preferred
• Strong commitment to health, safety, and professional driving standards
• Confidence using smartphones, tablets, and electronic logbook systems
• Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work well within a team
• Flexibility to work occasional weekends or overnight stays as required

The Following Would Be Advantageous, But Are Not Essential

• Dangerous Goods endorsement
• Linehaul driving experience
• Bulk liquid or dynamic load transport experience
• Experience within bitumen, roading, infrastructure, or construction environments
