Higgins is seeking an experienced Class 4 Driver to join our Civil Construction team in New Zealand. The role involves safely transporting materials and assisting with site labour on varied civil projects in the Wellington region.

You will drive Class 4 trucks, support earthworks and road maintenance, and help ensure high safety and quality standards on site. A strong team ethos and willingness to work outdoors are essential.

Qualifications

• Class 4 licence held and valid.
• Experience driving heavy vehicles in civil construction.
• WTR endorsements are advantageous.
• Class 5 licence desirable.
• Clear commitment to health and safety.
• Reliable, team-focused, with hands-on labour capability.
• Able to work outdoors in varying weather.
• Physically fit for manual tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate Class 4 trucks to transport materials, plant and equipment to site.
• Load, unload and secure plant, machinery and materials.
• Support crews with civil construction activities.
• Assist with earthworks and road maintenance as required.
• Carry out pre-start vehicle inspections and ensure maintenance.
• Complete site and vehicle documentation accurately and on time.
• Contribute to a safe work environment and team culture.
• Assist with traffic management and site setup when needed.

Higgins Wairarapa is looking for an experienced and reliable Class 4 Driver to join our Civil Construction team. With a strong pipeline of work across the Wairarapa region, this is a great opportunity to be part of a high-performing team delivering a variety of civil infrastructure projects.

This is a hands‑on role where you'll be responsible for safely transporting materials, plant, and equipment, while also supporting crews with a range of site‑based construction activities. While driving is a key part of the role, you'll also be expected to assist with labouring and general civil construction duties as required to support project delivery.

What You'll Be Doing

• Operating Class 4 trucks to transport materials, equipment, and machinery to and from site
• Loading, unloading, and securing plant, machinery, and construction materials
• Supporting crews with a range of civil construction activities
• Assisting with earthworks, road maintenance, construction, and infrastructure projects as required
• Assisting with labouring and site duties to support project delivery
• Carrying out pre‑start vehicle inspections and ensuring vehicles are maintained to a high standard
• Working closely with Forepersons and Project Teams to ensure efficient project delivery
• Following all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements
• Assisting with traffic management and site set‑up activities when required
• Completing vehicle, plant, and site documentation accurately and on time
• Contributing to a positive team culture and safe work environment

What You'll Bring

• Full Class 4 Driver Licence
• Experience operating heavy vehicles within civil construction, roading, or infrastructure environments
• WTR endorsements are advantageous
• Class 5 Licence is desirable
• Experience working within civil construction environments
• Strong commitment to health and safety
• Good communication skills and a team‑focused attitude
• Reliable, hardworking, and willing to get involved in all aspects of the job, including hands‑on labouring and civil construction activities when required
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Physically fit and capable of undertaking manual work
