Due to continued growth and a strong forward workload, they are looking for an experienced Civil Estimator to join their Auckland team.
The Role
The Estimator will play a key role in pricing and securing a diverse range of three waters and civil infrastructure projects, working closely with the delivery and commercial teams to develop accurate, competitive and buildable tenders.
Responsibilities
- Preparing accurate and competitive tenders for three waters and complex civil infrastructure projects.
- Reviewing tender documentation, drawings, specifications and project requirements to identify scope, risks and opportunities.
- Developing detailed quantities, cost estimates, construction methodologies and programmes.
- Obtaining, assessing and negotiating quotations from subcontractors, suppliers and specialist trades.
- Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers and construction teams to ensure tenders are practical, achievable and commercially sound.
- Identifying project risks, exclusions, assumptions and opportunities and incorporating these into tender submissions.
- Developing innovative and value-engineered solutions to improve project outcomes and competitiveness.
- Preparing professional tender submissions and ensuring all documentation is completed accurately and within required timeframes.
- Supporting tender reviews, commercial analysis and handover from estimating through to project delivery.
- Maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Contributing to post-tender reviews and continuously improving estimating processes and methodologies.
Skills And Experience
- 5+ years' experience in civil construction estimating, ideally within three waters, utilities or major infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure, including pipelines, drainage, earthworks, structures and associated civil works.
- Proven ability to prepare tenders from concept through to submission, including quantities, pricing, methodology and programme development.
- Strong commercial judgement with the ability to identify project risks, opportunities and cost drivers.
- Practical understanding of civil construction methodologies and what is required to successfully deliver projects on site.
- Experience working with subcontractors and suppliers and obtaining and analysing competitive pricing.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work and contract documentation.
- High level of attention to detail with strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Proficiency with estimating and construction software, with experience using Expert Estimation, Candy or similar advantageous.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, with experience in project programming software such as MS Project desirable.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders, priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- New Zealand civil construction experience is highly regarded.
