Job summary

Advanced Personnel Services – Napier is recruiting an experienced Estimator for a leading commercial construction company in Hawke's Bay. The role covers estimating from initial enquiry through tender submission and handover, working closely with internal teams, subcontractors and external stakeholders to ensure thorough, commercially sound pricing.

You will prepare detailed cost estimates, maintain cost databases, price tenders and support procurement while identifying risks and opportunities

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an Estimator within commercial construction.
• Strong understanding of NZ construction methodologies and contracts.
• Experience pricing tenders, negotiated projects, and/or ECI work.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates, tender submissions and proposals.
• Complete accurate quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns.
• Source, review and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
• Maintain up-to-date labour and material cost databases.
• Support procurement and contract budget preparation.
• Ensure clear and accurate documentation for project handover.
• Identify risks, opportunities and cost-saving initiatives.

Our client is a highly regarded commercial construction company with a solid reputation for delivering quality projects and building long-term client relationships. Due to continued growth and a strong forward workload, they are seeking an experienced Estimator to join their team.

This is a key role within the business, responsible for producing accurate and competitive pricing across a range of commercial projects.

About the Role

Reporting into senior leadership, you will be responsible for managing the estimating process from initial enquiry through to tender submission and handover. You will work closely with internal teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders to ensure thorough, commercially sound pricing.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates, tender submissions and proposals
• Complete accurate quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns
• Source, review and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing
• Maintain up-to-date labour and material cost databases
• Support procurement and contract budget preparation
• Ensure clear and accurate documentation for project handover
• Identify risks, opportunities and cost-saving initiatives

About You

• Proven experience as an Estimator within commercial construction, ideally in vertical construction
• Strong understanding of NZ construction methodologies and contracts
• Experience pricing tenders, negotiated projects, and/or ECI work
• High attention to detail with strong analytical capability
• Excellent communication and relationship management skills
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines
